The Irresistible MacRae

December, 2002

Now, I will be the first to admit that this book has a different flavor.  It's about Riona McKinsey and James MacRae and there isn't a whole lot of angst in it, which is just fine (look for To Love a Scottish Lord - dark enough, believe me).

James is tormented by the deed he committed, and everyone thinks it's a good thing if he gets away and performs an errand for his uncle.  Unfortunately, this leads to meeting Riona McKinsey, who's engaged to be married.   It's a love story, pure and simple, with an underlying theme of honor.  Evidently, I was so subtle that so many reviewers just missed it.  Sigh.

REVIEWS

Ranney's simple story of a forbidden love envelops the reader into a heartfelt drama.  The setting and the characters are elegant and bittersweet.  James is a handsome man, but his years at sea have shown him that he longs for a home to call his own.  He's found one with Riona and the beautiful land that adjoins her family's.  It's heartbreaking to see him fight Harold for Riona, yet still coming up short.  Having read the previous two books in this series, James is the perfect hero.  He has flaws, but he gives it his best shot.  With the pages turning eagerly, Ranney had this reader spellbound ‘til the end.  4 hearts, Reviewed by Jennifer Russell, www.romancereadersconnection.com,
As the pair spends time together, passion begins to burn between them, and yet both fight it tooth and nail. But as each gets to know the other better, they know they are lost, and Riona feels it is almost better to have known passion only to lose it than never to have it at all.

Can somehow this pair find happiness? Will someone drop something large and pointed on Harold so he leaves them in peace? You'd have to read the book to find out, but it is a glorious read, one you will enjoy from start to end. Karen Ranney has written a wonderful new addition to the HIGHLAND LORDS series; it is perfectly fine as a stand-alone book, although those who have read the other two books will enjoy seeing what has since happened to characters they've met before.--A. I found THE IRRESISTIBLE MACRAE to be a very entertaining and engrossing read. The first meeting between James and Riona is priceless. The chemistry between the two will have the reader pulling for them to find a way out of a seemingly impossible situation. I highly recommend this story to anyone who likes Scottish set historicals.
